Luke 4: 1-12 The temptation of Jesus.
Luke 4: 9
Then the Devil took him to Jerusalem and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple, saying to him, “If you are the Son of God throw yourself down from here.”
I remember in confirmation class memorizing, “God indeed tempts no one to sin…”
When I read about the temptation of Jesus, it becomes quite clear who is doing the tempting. It is not God; it is the Devil.
As a young woman in college, I remember having such a competitive spirit with my academics, particularly a need to make excellent grades. One time I was sorely tempted to copy from a fellow student whose test paper I could clearly see. My study time had been limited to prepare as I worked full time and had a family. Perhaps she had a better answer than mine. I did not succumb to temptation, made less than an “A” grade that time, but I felt better about myself. Thank God I did not compromise my principles.
